When Will I Ever Use This? Math is Everywhere

Updated: Jun 28, 2022

"When Will I Ever Use This?"

This is the question all of our students ask, and we should always be ready to answer!

Students may be surprised to learn that math plays a role in all sorts of jobs, careers, and even in everyday life. For example, people choosing a career in sports statistics can help determine which players are likely to succeed. Doctors use equations and formulas to determine the correct medication dosage for their patients. Financial advisors use exponential functions to help their clients earn the most money over time! The list goes on, and on, and on...

What types of jobs use math?

Math is used in many fields, from science and technology to the arts and even business. The following list of professions shows how widely mathematics is used:

● Science: Math is essential for studying biology, physics and chemistry. Without math, scientists would not be able to predict the results of experiments or experiments would take much longer because they would have to do more trial-and-error testing.

● Arts: It's no surprise that artists use a lot of math every day—after all, various types of art involve some sort of measurement or calculation (like using ratios or percentages). For an artist to ensure their paintings will look realistic enough on canvas or paper so viewers can recognize them as real objects requires careful calculations about perspective lines and angles between surfaces (ex.: trees versus walls in a landscape scene).

● Health Care: A doctor must know the right dosage of medicine for a patient based on his weight and height. He also needs to know what percentage of patients will experience side effects from certain types of medication. The doctor must use logic skills to solve problems while keeping his patients' best interest at heart so as to not harm them.

Math is everywhere

Let's break that down:

● Math is used in many professions. Many types of jobs require math skills. For example, you might need to use calculus to understand how a new machine works by figuring out its energy output and efficiency. Or maybe you'll have to use geometry to figure out the shape of an object so you can better understand how it works or what kind of materials would be needed to build it. In each case, the profession requires some degree of mathematical knowledge and understanding.Math is used in almost every industry. There are countless industries that need people with math skills for their workforce.

Math plays an essential role in many jobs and everyday tasks.

If you've ever wondered how math is used in the real world, it's simple: everywhere! From professionals like doctors and lawyers to everyday tasks like cooking and gardening, math plays an essential role in many jobs and everyday tasks.
